Welcome to IWG Tunis! The IWG (International Women's Group), Tunis, is a non-profit organisation for women from around the world, presently residing in Tunisia. Its easy, multicultural atmosphere attracts expat ladies to join the group. We share and enjoy good moments together. We have currently more than two hundred members from 43 countries. The focus of the IWG is to help the expat ladies to settle down in Tunis and feel at home. To achieve this, we have set up many activity groups within the IWG. It enables members to participate in small group activities of their own interest, and share experiences and information about Tunisia and their own nations with other members. Our activities are highlighted by the monthly IWG Coffee Mornings which offer a great opportunity to the members to make friends and explore their new home away from home. Members of the IWG actively participate in charity activities, and organize fund-raising bazaars in spring and winter. The funds raised through these are donated to different Tunisian charities to meet some of their financial needs.

IWG Update (2012JUNE12)

Sidi Bou Said, Tunisia         IWG Update

Dear Ladies,

Many ladies knew that I went for a week holiday in Lebanon at beginning of this month. It was a wonderful trip. I wrote some travel notes to share with you on this and next issue's "Cultural Spot".

Our June program is on-going particularly at this week. For those who want to participate the fund-raising bazaar co-organised by Angela for Manouba Orphanage, please refer to the details published on the "On-going Events".

IWG's coffee gathering is going to take place on June 21 at Mövenpick Hotel.  This is going to be our last coffee gathering in the first half of the year. Meanwhile, this is also a farewell coffee to those IWG ladies who are leaving Tunis. Please sign up with "June Cafe" in the subject line to "iwgtunis@hotmail.co.uk" before June 18th. Kindly note, "48-hour-cancellation" is introduced as of now on. Going forward, any cancellation which is shorter than 48 hours, please participate the cost. This will certainly enable us to avoid any embarrassing situation which happened in the past. I believe, everyone of us has good understanding about it.

At the end, I would like to share with you a true life story which happened to me last week in Tunis. Last Thursday, I lost some of my important personal documents incidentally on the taxi back to home. I was anxiously asking for help and seeking for solution. Lamia Temimi kindly forwarded me the telephone number of "mosaiq FM" for me to make a radio announcement. I did and hoped that taxi driver would listen to the radio. Friday afternoon, somebody rang my doorbell. I opened door, an Asian couple standing in front of me. The lady introduced herself that her name was Yukie Kan, also IWG member living not far from me. Then she told me that a taxi driver stopped her in the street, showing her my personal documents and asking if she knew by chance where I lived. At this time, I saw the taxi driver waving to me from his car and he was holding my documents in hand....... I all of sudden became speechless. I was almost hopeless to think about my lost documents. Now, they were in front of me! I only remembered I said thousand times "thank you" to the taxi driver. I also saw a pinch of sunshine on his smiling face - he is a true gentleman! Tunisian people are kind people. I wish them all well!

Thanks and hope to see you on the coffee gathering.
